200204 2003-12-16 04:49:00 john- what you did was totally correct. you benchmarked the setup and found it to be poor performing and fixed it by useing sata drives. all perfectly fine by me :)

whetu- sorry no links. i coundn't really be bothered as this saga crops up every time a new standard comes out, its been thrashed to death over the years.
some onboard ata can be problematic, i remember brand name manafactures useing ata cards to get around poor performing ata on some chipsets. theres always some buggy hardware around.
