The products are quite different and the instructions for one will differ from the other.

This really is in your hands, you might know where the software came from (was it bundled, downloaded or ??) and when it was installed? Even the age or PC specs would give a clue.

What logo displayed on the screen when it boooted up? Anything?

This is akin to pulling teeth, one at a time...

I think I might have got this one sorted now.
I chatted with a live technician at McAfee, who didn't seem to be able to find out what version I had. However he recommended the article at ts.mcafeehelp.com for my needs. I followed that with more help, and then I installed Norton Internet security, which seems to be working OK. I'll scream out if it plays tricks on me.
