Yes, it was Unix that Mike said, sorry guys. Just a little slip of the finger.... you know, one of those typo things...... I got Linux on the brain at the moment you see. Honestly, I do. :8}

200151 2003-12-14 11:30:00 I can't say much about solaris 9 but solaris 6 is very good, I have been running it on my Sun Sparc station for over a year.

it is hard to install, it is unix at its most powerfull.

Linux program on Unix? a very small few but most of the time not.

my install of solaris came on one CD and has about 100 packages for all sorts of stuff.

Why don't you find out Chill?

I've downloaded the Solaris 9 install disc (OS ISO) 2 disc's of goodies (976MB so far) and in the process of downloading the Java enterprise package. Have also got 2 documentation packages lined up which will bring the lot to about 1.8GB.

Cheers Murray ;P

200154 2003-12-14 12:15:00 one big factor is that is has been devoliped over many years and so very stable and if setup right it is very secure.

it is use a lot in the "real world" EG banks and such like, places where you want 100% up time and secure as hell.

You know, that actually sounds a good idea :-)

200156 2003-12-14 21:02:00 Never mind, I've queued up 3 gigs of downloads from the Sun site (.com).

I should be sweet for international bandwidth this month by the looks of it.. Its gonna take me a while though to say the least ;-)

Don't bother Chill, I've already downloaded it, no point us all watching the little chains go round and round and round (number one son was getting a bit hosed tho, kept on coming into my office and asking how the internet was going for me "fine son, rouring along" which got him madder each time because he was having the greatest of difficulties playing online games :^O I almost ran from the look I got when he discovered I was downloading great gobs of data. He's still a tad shorter than me so I'll stand my ground until that fatefull time arrives then I'll break the Cowards land speed record for the 2nd time in my life and hope like hell he hasn't improved too much along with the extra height. The perks of parenthood ;) )

Drop me a line at the usual addy.
