200523 2003-12-14 11:24:00 I wanna send emails but my email provider (valuenet) is different to my internet provider (quicksilver) and it always wants me to get proper authentication by dialing up with the connection that goes with my email (valuenet connection).

This peev's me off cos if i'm on the internet already i can recieve but i have to disconnect and reconnect with the valuenet connection. Ocasionally it lets me send with the quicksilver connection but only once in a blue moon.

Basically I want to make a batch file that will make the smtp server think that i'm logged on through the valuenet internet when i'm just logged onto their server. I can do this with the pop3 server (easy as) but i tried with the smtp server on port 25 but the user "interface" is not the same as a pop3 server... i.e. i cannot login using user [name] and pass [password].

So how do I logon to a smtp server through telnet. (why did I write all that^^^? ?:|)

200524 2003-12-14 18:59:00 Wouldn't it be easier to tell Outlook Express to use SMTP Authentication rather then trying to send a message via Telnet?

Outlook Express > Tools > Accounts > *Valuenet Account* > Properties > Servers (tab):
Tick My Server Requires Authentication
Select 'Log on using the same settings as my incoming mail server'
Apply and OK out.

200526 2003-12-15 01:17:00 Easiest method to this strange question, reply to the message with the return address of the address you want them to see.

SMTP servers work off the IP address that's theirs. Telnet will not work in this case if you experience the problem in normal emailing process because it's been patched against the likes of people forging email.

The SMTP commands for Telnet

HELO <domain/IP/etc>
MAIL FROM: <your address>
RCPT TO: <senders address> //may not work due to relaying not allowed outside their domain so only addresses that are theirs will work.
DATA
<message begins>
. //to end message
QUIT

The message is sent after the quit.
