200672 2003-12-15 04:00:00 I am trying to share some folders, so that I can put stuff on this machine from my other windows computers. But I am having lots of problems.

First, I wouldnt have a clue how to do it, but this is was I tried.

I enabled file sharing for all users, and then I go to the folder, right click > share and click shared, and then it comes up with an error saying "error wile running /usr/sbin/fileshareset"

The other problem is, how do I add my computer to the network?
I have PC1 and PC2 on the network, and I want this to be PC3.

Next is, I managed to mount Shareddocs on PC2, but how do I add a shortcut of this to my desktop? If I click and drag, it copies the whole folder, abd right click does not give me a create shortcut option.

Also, how do I get it to STAY mounted, so everytime I restart, I do not have to mount it again?

200674 2003-12-15 04:12:00 You'll be wanting to setup Samba

Have a look through some of my previous posts for samba :-)

200675 2003-12-15 08:29:00 Add the mount to you fstab file found in /etc then right click on the desktop and go Create New - Hard Disk. I'm not in Linux at the moment but I think that is right. To learn more about fstab go man fstab mikebartnz (21)
200676 2003-12-15 08:58:00 Sorry, I cant seem to dind your other samba things, except your printer one.

200677 2003-12-15 09:07:00 You've gotta be root to edit the fstab Chilling_Silently (228)

200680 2003-12-15 09:29:00 Apart from Lindows.com with Linux when you install it you have to give a password for root(Administrator in Windows) as well as set up a user account. Most of the time you will be in the user account but to edit something like fstab you have to be logged in as root. As root you are allowed to stuff your OS up as much as you like :D mikebartnz (21)

You can add shortcuts to whatever directory by right-clicking on the desktop and selecting "Create New" and then "Link to Location (URL)" and then enter in the file path - these instructions work with KDE and Gnome (if that is what you are using) will have something similar.

Since you are new to Linux, you might want to have a look at this site - it is really helpful and explains things in plain english - Newbie's Top Ten Commands (www.cmm.uklinux.net)
