200702 2003-12-17 21:49:00 ummm. Trying to share a folder to my windows computers, so I can just click and drag into that folder, and it goes to the linux PC.

Im going away for a week now though, so I will try when I get back

200704 2003-12-24 07:16:00 Nope, I just cant get it. I dunno if I can understand properly, or else im going rather insane from trying so much.

From the very begging, in words of one syllable :-), maybe grunt a few times, how exactly do I do this?

For a start, I will put your smb.conf in chilling_silently, and then you tell me what to from there.

Thanks

200705 2003-12-24 07:43:00 Okay, if you've got yourself that smb.conf file I posted about a week back, do the following as root:

mkdir /transfer
chmod 777 /transfer

edit your smb.conf file and get rid of [My Music], [Vidz] and [Install], or modify them to suit. Get rid of [Misc Files] too...

Next, run:
/etc/init.d/samba restart
If that doesnt work:
/etc/rc.d/rc.samba restart

Which one works will depend on what Distro.

After that, you should be all peachy :-)
Try browsing your Linux PC shares :-)

Cheers

200706 2003-12-24 21:09:00 Where abouts do I make that /transfer folder? In the home/joe place, or somewhere else? mejobloggs (264)
200707 2003-12-24 21:50:00 Nope, just /transfer
Hence the "/" before the "transfer"

Its just that its a nice accesible place for everybody etc.

If it were in /home/joe, I would have told you to make ~/transfer
The ~ before the / means /home/username/

Cool huh :-)

Getting on alright with it?

200708 2003-12-24 23:35:00 yes! I done it now!

200709 2004-08-09 07:36:00 Ignore this people, just making some notes here, because this is the second time I have had this problem.

You may read and laugh at my noobness.

Make sure the samba stuff points to a folder that is there!
/home/jonathan/backup
Is completely different to
/home/backup

security level - put ";" in front of line to delete it.
