200788 2003-12-15 06:38:00 I have been trying for about 3 hours to bring up the Australian White Pages, (www.whitepages.com.au). Everytime I select that URL, either from a search engine or by typing the address in, it dumps me back to my home page as I type the M in com.

I have tried everything I can think of with the same result. Everything else I surf works perfectly. My virus program suggests all OK. I'm a long way from being technically proficient so can anyone suggest anything ?

200789 2003-12-15 06:58:00 Loading fine here. Assuming you are using Internet Explorer go into Tools | Internet Options and delete your Temporary Internet files and clear the History. Try again and if no joy go to the Content tab to Autocomplete and Clear Forms. If still no joy let us know. ;-) Fire-and-Ice (3910)
200790 2003-12-15 07:00:00 Hi Rosie
You reminded me to check for an address for someone I need to send a Christmas card to. When I tried was the quickest link in the last month.
Sorry don't know what to suggest. Someone more knowledgeable than me will come to the rescue.
Good luck

200791 2003-12-15 07:28:00 Sorry folks, tried all the above, no joy. Same thing happens with www.yellowpages.com. I disabled my "pop-up" killer but no joy there either. This is getting serious as I also need an address for a Xmas Card ! ! Rosie1 (3743)
200792 2003-12-15 08:15:00 I don't quite know what is happening but click this (http://www.whitepages.com.au/) link mikebartnz (21)
200793 2003-12-15 08:24:00 A rather tricky problem. Copy and paste this url into your Addressbar and see what happens:

www.whitepages.com.au

If that does not work have a look and see if your Cookie settings are cranked up too high. Also ensure that your computer's date is correct.

When you disabled your ad-blocker (or was it popup blocker?) did you restart your browser afterwards?

200794 2003-12-15 08:26:00 Is it any URL with the .com ending or part?

Try entering into your browser www.pcworld.com and see what happens.

Do you use Spybot Search & Destroy (www.safer-networking.org) or Ad-aware 6 (www.lavasoftusa.com) ? Might be worth while to run them to make sure you don't have any nasties trying to redirect URL's with .com in it (long shot) :)

200795 2003-12-15 20:37:00 Sorry guys, have tried all the foregoing without success...calendar date is OK, settings are the same as ever, and attempt to use URL's supplied just crashes me straight back to my home page. Doesn't seem to be a problem with any other .COM urls, just whitepages and yellowpages. It's not even giving me an error/page not found report, just a straight-out dump. I ran my restricted copy of Adaware and found 2 queries files which were quarantined but it made no difference.

Quess I may just have to forego this site ?

200796 2003-12-15 22:27:00 Just to clarify the above - what seems weird to me is that if I type the Url into the address panel it disappears after I type the .com, before I press any "send" or enter keys. It's as if the combination of letters etc is incompatible. It isn't the .com phrase itself as it works on other Urls. Rosie1 (3743)
200797 2003-12-15 23:39:00 Rosie this is a rather weird one. Have you tried a repair of Internet Explorer at all? That might work.

Failing that, if you are desperate enough you could try another web browser. Along with many others here my favourite is Firebird which would be an ideal one to try as it does not need "installing". You just download, double-click on MozillaFirebird.exe and away you go. Very easy to "uninstall" as well, though you may not want to after trying it. ;-)
