200544 2003-12-14 23:06:00 I have been having trouble with the Mirascan and Scan Button programs in my computer so decided to remove them and start again.Mirascan was removed without trouble but with Scan Button I seem to have a problem. If I click START,SEARCH and enter Scan Button I get the message"Search is complete. There are no results to display."This seems to show I have got rid of the Scan Button program but if I click START,CONTROL PANEL,ADD OR Remove PROGRAMS I find Scan Button is still listed. If I then click SCAN BUTTON,CHANGE/REMOVE I get the message "Error loading C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\INSTAL~1\engine\6\INTEL3~1\Ct or.dll.The specifiedmodule could not be found."
Can somebody tell me what is going on and what do I do now?If it is relevant I run Windows XP.

200545 2003-12-14 23:29:00 Search will not find "Scan Button" as there will be no files or folders left with that name. In truth, there may never have been files of this exact name, there is no compulsion to label files with the application name in exact form.

The error message suggests that the program was unistalled in a manner that Windows XP didn't fully recognise. The uninstall was incomplete (not unusual) and some dregs remain, however the uninstall file information was uninstalled. Thats what Windows is complaining about.

This happens more whan applications not designed for XP are loaded and then uninstalled. It also happens where data created by using the program (such as a scanner output file) is stored within the scanner software folder(s). A good uninstaller program will never delete such files, and when they remain some folders are left, as they cannot be deleted until empty.

There are utilities available that will strip out the registry components, but these should not be used lightly unless you have backed up the registry, due to the chance of deleting something important.

Use the search string: XP uninstaller into Google, for 129,000 choices...
