201267 2003-12-17 09:12:00 Hi when I check my wifes hotmail for her I keep getting this annoying page popping up everytime I click on a new message. Why is this happening and how do we stop it. It opens a new browser window. Thanks.

201268 2003-12-17 09:13:00 This is the message.

This is a default test page for the Advertising Delivery System (ADS) indicating you have successfully pinged an individual IIS Server by IP.

201269 2003-12-17 10:34:00 Best way to fix this problem is to get a Yahoo email account and forget hotmail ever existed.

So many people have had problems with hotmail pop ups and spamming that I personaly have never gone anywhere near it.

Of the several other webmail sites I've used Yahoo is by far the best.

Of course this is just a personal opinion.

I use Orcon. They're NZ-based and provide the best service I know of!

201271 2003-12-17 11:27:00 If you don't want to switch off Hotmail, then add the following lines into your hosts file (search on PressF1 about doing that if you don't know).

0.0.0.0 global.msads.net
0.0.0.0 xtramsn.co.nz
0.0.0.0 alerts.msn.com
0.0.0.0 rad.msn.com
0.0.0.0 svcs.microsoft.com

You can add/remove some of those to your liking (such as xtramsn.co.nz; I only add that because it's where you're referred to after signing out of Hotmail, and frankly, I don't like wasting bandwidth on that crappy portal - personal opinion, of course, and you can still go to messenger.xtramsn.co.nz etc).

I don't get very much Spam coming through into my hotmail account now . I will say though that I have a filter on it to stop any e-mail from any yahoo email account at all because 96% of my Spam was coming from there into hotmail .

Also I have never had a hotmail popup either but then I went through and turned everything off in hotmail first and set my PC up to stop these .
