| 201240 | 2003-12-17 07:16:00 | An elderly friend has had email returned by 'Paradise Postmaster' saying "Unfortunately we have been blacklisted by the "SORBS" spam blacklist. The persons ISP to which you were sending the email has chosen to use the SORBS blacklist. They will not except mail from any other ISP on this blacklist. The people who run the blacklist will not remove us unless we pay USD$50 per spam email they have had reported. We consider this to be completely unethical and will not be paying money to be removed from a blacklist. I can only suggest complaining to the service provider who chooses to use a blacklist such as this - absamail.co.za" She asks me what does this mean. Can anyone please help me explain as I haven't a clue. Thanks Dumb bell. |

| 201241 | 2003-12-17 07:56:00 | Spam & Open Relay Blocking System (SORBS) Lists are lsts of ISP's that have been identified as permitting spam operators or "open relays" which allow people to operate spam remotely (and usually untraceably) using the ISP as a host. When an ISP is reported to a SORBS list, they run the risk of being blacklisted by other ISP's, who will then refuse all traffic originating from them. Its not your fight, its a scrap between ISP's as to who is and is not guilty. Its original cause is spammers. There is very little you can do. Usually these blacklistings only last a few weeks. Other prominent NZ ISP's have been blacklisted recently, but its usually only the little ISP's overseas that block the main players. |
