| 201224 | 2003-12-17 07:04:00 | buy a usb 2 drive, it's backward compatible with usb 1, only the drive may burn slower ( because of the slower bandwidth ) unless there is different voltage/ampages in usb 1 vs 2? I can't remember. You could find a benchtest software that will test usb speeds for you - but a quick google shows you need to get a loopback plug too... :( haven't found anything yet, so I'd suggest using Dr Hardware! http://www.dr-hardware.com/ :) |

I think the best indicator if it usb 2, is the age of the machine as usb 2 is a fairly new standard. BTW Xp does not natively support usb 2, you have to download these drivers from the microsoft update site. If you haven't and you have no yellow exclamation marks in the usb hub chances are usb 1.1. Another thought try right clicking on the usb hub device in device manager it may tell you ie driver verision. |

A couple of IBM computers purchased at my work in March this year came with USB 1.x when I would have thought they should have had USB 2. :-( |

"Hi speed USB 2" is the same speed as USB 1.1 "In response to consumers asking for 'USB 2.0' on their new machines, the USB Forum has taken the kindly step of renaming USB 1.1 to USB 2. So now there's 'Hi-speed USB 2' and 'Full-speed USB 2'" |
