201196 2003-12-17 04:55:00 Howdy All,

I've been using the SUBST command in DOS to substitute E Drive as B Drive, that way older programs that only backed up to A: or B: can now use larger drives, e.g. CDRW or HDD or any other media. It's now made it that unless I'm there to change it from backing up daily to making an End of the Month Backup I have to either teach other people how to do this or I do it myself. This coming Xmas I won't be around to help them so I was hoping for a simpler method.

Basically so far all I have it doing is running daily.bat in the startup folder with thi commands.

SUBST B E:\backup\daily\

So with every restart, the virtual drive disappears until the startup batch file is ran again.

I tried creating another batch file they could use when needs be which had

SUBST B: /D
SUBST B E:\backup\december\

But this was no go as this command must require a continue process as it doesn't execute the 2ND Line or produces an error. One or the other.

So instead of this method, I prefer an alternative. Something simple, something possibly GUI related so that non-technical people could work it out (although I still expect to train them to use it correctly, because it's quite vital they don't screw the backup up, just to be safe I may backup before I leave).

Any ideas, I was considering writing a console C program that would work how I'd want it, but I'll consider it later if there's no other ways.

Cheers,

KK

Merry Xmas, and Happy New Years!

How about something like Virtual Drive Connector (www.j-a-associates.com) ...

Cheers, Babe.
