And you other guys leaving Sherry and Port, you should be ashamed of yourselves *hic* too much Sherry and he'll miss out your chimney (especially mine) because he's too drunk. |

| 201329 | 2003-12-18 19:45:00 | ok heres my take on this thing, i feel there is too much emphasis on giving (presents i mean) and its all about what i want .....to keep up with the other people who have this etc.... it has got way to competitive, prices for things are ridiculus and the novelty wears off very fast with some items... i do enjoy christmas, and have always tried to instil in my children being together with family and having a lovely day is more important than what they got from under the tree. time is short, children are only young once but that doesnt mean we have to spend excess amounts of money to make them happy or peaceful for 5 minutes. and no i dont mean to make it sound bad or grumpy like, just sick of the wrong emphasis on the day..... and as for giving Santa alchohol, has no one heard of drink driving???? even most children you ask now say dont give him a beer...... and it always seems to be you never have enough money to spend on what you really want to get them or you.... sorry people. just living a little on the overload side of things here and im not enjoying it....... too much to do and no time to do it. but i do like a present myself, but it seems im destined to have useless ones for the term of my life and its never what i want ever.... beetle |

The days up to Christmas are about rushing around getting those presents for everyone... will they like it, have I spent enough on them etc. Its hot, you can't find a park... its so "enjoyable". I can't help thinking that its the retailers that do best at Christmas. Then we have to try and pay off our credit cards. To me, Christmas is all about the kids enjoying opening gifts and being with the family. |

| 201331 | 2003-12-25 21:56:00 | As soon as I become the oldest member in my family group I am going to try and ban Christmas and the giving of presents for any family member over 10 years old. Every year we have the same tensions and squabbles on Xmas day and all I want is some peace and quiet. Talk about problems with 'mother in law' vs 'daughter in law' and general power struggle as older members of the group refuse to recognize that younger people, and I am talking about 54 years old here, are still not entitled to all the usual respect reserved for adults in a normal group. I am sick of Xmas, especially so this year with all its commercialism etc and even though I never ever thought I would hear myself say this, I think I know how Scrooge felt. I am also not convinced anymore that teaching children to believe in fantasy figures is at all a good thing considering other examples of non-existent beings believed in influencing the course of human events. Sorry to be grumpy but I had a bad day yesterday and none of it could have been avoided except by my non participation. Diplomacy seems to be taken as weakness in my family. Anyway Best Wishes to you all, and have a happy boxing day. |
