| 201765 | 2003-12-19 09:20:00 | Was going to refer you to a page about this but it has gone. :-( Just as well I copied and pasted the instructions into my trusty CardFile though, isn't it? ;-) Many users of Windows 2000/WinXP have reported that using a large hosts file causes their computer to practically grind to a halt. The following is a solution that has been very effective in fixing this problem. This is the only solution I am aware of, if it doesn't work for you I have no other ideas. If I find anything else I will post it here. While logged on as Administrator, go to the Control Panel and open Administrative Tools. Next, open up Services and double click on DNS Client and change the setting to Disabled. Hope it works for you. :-) |
