201435 2003-12-18 10:13:00 I heard that the iPod can be used for 18 months only , once 18 months have passed , the built-in battery can not be used anymore and it's expensive to replace it , is that true? scottiedave (4861)

201438 2003-12-19 03:36:00 A mate of mine has a 20GB one and he's had it for about 3 years and he bought it second hand in USA.
The battery still lasts about 8-9 hours! :D

exactly. apple isn't a no-name brand. they haven't got this far after making the first personal computer and getting a good name for using sub-standard components. there is no proof that this is 18 month thing is true

that's my ranting and raving for the day :D

201443 2003-12-19 05:44:00 it's to do with the life of the battery. more here:

apple have since dropped the price of battery replacement, and anyone with any DIY skills can replace the battery themselves for about half the price of apple's replacement service.

If it was still under warranty then I would expect apple to fix it. Otherwise who cares what apple thinks.
