| 201379 | 2003-12-18 03:41:00 | On these hot days we've been having my Athlon XP1800+ system (not overclocked) is running a little warmer than I'd like. My case has no additional cooling other than the PSU and CPU fans. I have a 7200rpm hdd which probably adds to the heat a fair bit. Do you think I will get the best cooling effect by adding a case fan (and should I add front and rear), or a drive cooling system such as this (www.dse.co.nz). Thanks |

| 201380 | 2003-12-18 03:50:00 | The DSE system will not do any harm, and if you think that the heat is caused by the HD, buy all means install it. In my case, the HD light very seldom lights up, but it all depends on your use. Leave the side panel off, and feel what heat it is generating - the old finger trick. Bye |

| 201382 | 2003-12-18 06:25:00 | The problem with little fans like those, and the tiddly ones they put in hard drive plug in trays, is the noise. I use a 120mm fan in the side of the case directed at the cpu. My hard drive in is a tray/caddy with the bay below it which can take a slave drive plugged in, left open. There is also an empty bay above it. It's only a 5400rpm drive but being virtually in free air it doesnt get hot, not even barely warm. Thats one of the advantages of a full tower having 5 x 5 1/2" bays, good air circulation, and plenty of space. |
