201448 2003-12-20 00:45:00 Sony, who make the battery, say it should give 500-1000 cycles.

It is a new technology --- lithium ion polymer -- which is why it is so small. Unlike NiCd and NiMH cells, it should not be deep cycled for best life, so use for 9-10 hours until flat, then recharge is not good for it. So 18 months (about 500 cycles) is pretty good. How many laptop batteries are still good after 18 months?

There appear to be a number of sources for replacements, some even including the necessary screwdriver, for about US$44. So if you get 500*10 hours, it's not too much per hour. Alkalines might cost you a bit more. :D
