201603 2003-12-19 00:00:00 I am trying to format my H: drive. I have created this using partition magic to hold data. I go into "My Computer" and it won't let me format it. It tells me "it cannot format this drive". I must quit any disk utilities using it and any other programs and try again. I have disabled all my norton utilities. What else to I need to do? I am using an NTFS file system. Ironman (3784)
201604 2003-12-19 00:18:00 Try right-clicking on My Computer>Manage>Disk Management.

Right-click on H drive (make sure it is the right one!!) then choose Format.

BTW it would be nice if you could provide some feedback on your results when people give you advice here. It helps others who do a search and may come across your threads and wonder whether the advice was successful or not.

201605 2003-12-19 00:25:00 Provide the Operating System and it maybe easier to fix.

When you go into My Computer, instead of hilighting the drive. Right-Click on it and choose Format, this way the Operating System will not read it to find out the size, space left on the drive, which should allow you to format. If this doesn't work, and you run WinXP/2K you can run Computer Management, find Disk Management and then format there.

If Win9x you can boot from a startup disk and format from there using commands, Format H:, you may put a switch (/q) in it to make it a quick format if you are just removing everything off it and not changing filesystem.

201606 2003-12-19 13:20:00 Are you trying to format it from Windows Explorer? mikebartnz (21)
201607 2003-12-19 17:30:00 In partition magic, highlight the drive you want to format, click on partition and then on format. Easy Peasy. Octavian. (4897)
