Im connecting through the integrated 100mbps Ethernet connection. Its a long way for the traffirc to get through a bridged connection on the Familys WinXP Machine, then thru a 30m cable to the switch, then to the router.... ;-) Ping speeds about 5ms slower if that helps :-) Im posting from my PC now until I can make a USB adapter, and will buy another 3 XBox > USB adapters from x-mods after Christmas when money's not quite so tight. USB works fine provided it works with linux (And most USB peripherals do nowadays). The Controller is basically a USB device with a different plug! Goto xbox-scene if you're interested, as it tells you how to make your own cable. Aside from that, I already use the XPad as a Gamepad on my Desktop (But sadly have no games to use it with :p). Has nobody else run an OS on the PS2 even? *Chilling_Silently thinks of getting a wireless USB keyboard tomorrow for his Xbox....! |

2003-12-22 09:18:00 | Wireless devices are prone to blocking... What say someone gets hold of a frequency jammer and operates it (within range, of course) while you're playing a multiplayer game? Serious disadvantages would ensue ;) :D

2003-12-22 09:26:00 | Bah.... Its not going to be a major Gaming machine.. Although the nVidia Geforce 3 MX-based GPU is good enough to get a good enough fps at that res, and the 10GB HDD on a 733Mhz Celeron (Coppermine) based CPU are more than enough to play DVD's on my Philips DVD-Rom, the 64MB RAM is a little low ;-) Not bad for $250 second hand about 3 months back though :D Makes a good cheap PC and Ive been using Distcc too, so compiling is pretty fast coz its using my Athlon XP 1700+ too ;-)

2003-12-22 11:22:00 | How do we know you are not using your computer and just saying you are using your X-Box? You could be trying to pull the wool over our eyes....... I heard you still used a Sega megadrive!

2003-12-22 13:03:00 | I could take a screenshot, but I run the same OS on my desktop system ;-) I use GNOME on my Desktop and Xfce4 on the XBox, aside from that the installs are pretty similar :-) I'll put a photo up on Sals ImageF1 in the morning!
