201810 2003-12-19 20:09:00 Just to rub salt in Microsoft's wounds, Recently Microsoft have tried accusing Open-Source Developers of being slow to patch holes found in their software. I doubt Microsoft means their software. But its happened, Open-Source users have released a Patch for Internet Explorer to fix the recently discovered bug that allows users to change the URL that is displayed in the Address bar. Buggy software will be Buggy software, and apparently it has its own buffer over-flow security problems so experts recommend waiting for Microsoft to get their act together and patch their own software! And in other news today, Fedora Core 2 is planned for next April. They expect they will release upto three Release-Candidates between February and March (Thats a short life-cycle) and will have the Final release on all mirrors by the 5th of April.
To quote the Fedora website, "We have set a very aggressive schedule for Fedora Core 2. Red Hat considers two items absolutely "stop-ship" — that is, we will slip the release if necessary to include them. These two items are the 2.6 Linux kernel and SELinux functionality integrated into the distribution. Other areas of technology that the Fedora Community (Red Hat and third parties together) will focus on will include GNOME 2.6 (tight schedule, particularly dependent on Gtk+ 2.4), KDE 3.2, more Java software using gcj (Ant, Tomcat, Jakarta, Eclipse, but not Mozilla plugins, AWT, or Swing), and integrating work on other architectures (at least AMD64, and possibly also SPARC)."

The Linux kernel 2.6 has been released, and KDE 3.2 is not far off now, with GNOME 2.6 being just around the corner also!
