| 201978 | 2003-12-20 21:52:00 | Telecom, in a desperate attempt to increase the pathetic number of users on broadband in NZ are pushing their Jetsream product. I strongly suggest that you do not get sucked in to this. We have it at work and it is not much facter than my 56K dial up at home for surfing the web. (It is fairly fast for downloading files). But for general surfing it would be a waste of the money. I suggest waiting until Telecom are forced by their emabarrasment to offer us some decent speeds for broadband. If you get a chance to see wireless in action you will know what I mean. Digby |

| 201980 | 2003-12-20 22:00:00 | I have Jetstream 128K and it is much faster than dial up for web browsing, I get impatient now when using other PC's on dial up . I have no quarrel with the feeling out there that we are getting less speed than what we could have, but I don't think we are too hard done by . Your experience at work may depend on other factors like what sort of traffic is going through your system at any one time, how may users you have connected and your work's physical location etc . I enjoy gaming, and find that my Jetstart connection provides good pings . I heard that wireless is not good for gaming, so I guess there are different connections out there for different uses and different people . J :D |

If you are unhappy, complain. If you are still unhappy, go elsewhere. My 56k connection, never goes at its full potential but thats life in the slow lane really. | Dolby Digital (160) | ||
| 201982 | 2003-12-20 23:19:00 | dsl is far better than dial up when you've got multiple computers to serve.. ever tried to have a networked flat on dial up? Ever helped run a college network that has dial up for the internet connection??? the current major downside to dsl is that telecom have changed from packet dropping to packet queueing equipment, this means that basically any internet multitasking is effectively a futile waste of time when using dsl. Try playing a game and have a flatmate browse the internet.. you're pretty much going to lag, whereas before there wasnt a problem with this... then the other downsides are that dsl is too expensive for what it is, and the data caps applied to the 256k options are a blimmin joke... |

| 201983 | 2003-12-22 04:14:00 | I agree with Tweak'e, its likely a configuration error on your behalf. I have just got JetStream Starter (128kbps) and its a MASSIVE improvement over 56k (especially when shared between 3x PC's). Browsing the internet, all files are downloaded to your PC (Hence how they can be shown). Its basically automated downloading of small files and a set of instructions on how to display them, so Downloading being faster (unless there's some sort of real good compression - which I doubt) is not likely sorry. |

| 201984 | 2003-12-22 04:21:00 | I'm still on 56k and plan to be for a verrrrrrry long time... the price of faster than 56k internet is stupid..... |

| 201985 | 2003-12-22 04:31:00 | When you think about it though, its not _too_ bad. $24.95 per month for an unlimited use connection $34.95 (I think) for a second phone line Or: $64.90 all up for 10 gigs data transfer with JetStream Starter (I wouldnt touch JetStream Home with a 10ft pole!) For 3x the speed (More if you use JSG like myself for their Gentoo mirror) I just couldnt go back.. Especially seeing as I downloaded about 30 gigs in my first month!! |

My 56k connection, never > goes at its full potential but thats life in the slow > lane really . Ha ha you are joking of course . Either that or you are in Auckland or Welligton where there are other options . Here, like in most other places in the country where the real money is made for the country, all you can get for high speed is JetStream or one of its offshoots . Ther are no cables out here, wireless does not exist unless you want to get ripped off big time by IHug and the big satellite in the sky . Nope we just have to bite the bullet and take what little Telecom have to offer us and cannot complain because even if we did they don't listen . If they did they would have made JetStart 256 minimum . Even that is not broadband in the real sense of the word . |

| 201987 | 2003-12-22 05:08:00 | It even says on the JetStream Ad on TV (With the Jetsons ;-)) that JetStream Starter is not classed as broadband So if Im not on Broadband, what am I on? Thinband? ;-) |
