202457 2003-12-23 06:54:00 A year ago, I seem to remember there would be 3 million users online at this time of day. Now there are only 2.5 million. Is the same thing happening with other p2p programs? ssssss (2100)
202458 2003-12-23 06:58:00 I was on KL a week or so ago and there were just over 5m users... depends on the day/time.

202459 2003-12-23 08:25:00 The word going round is that users are deserting Kazaa/Kazza lite because
A) Kazaa loaded with too much spoyware and there are other equally good alternatives without such intrusive nasties
B) Sharman Networks (Kazaa creator) is moving against Kazaa Lite for, ironically, copyright infringement. Alot of Kazaa Lite users have been reporting very slow download times as Sharman attempts to 'purge' Kazaa Lite from its network which is also rather ironic considering it claims to be a de-centralized P2P network over which it has no control.

On a personal level I haven't noticed any particular problems with downloading although I hardly use it now but its probbaly only a matter of time.
This thread (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz) refers to an article re: Kazaa Lite's problems

202460 2003-12-23 11:10:00 So KLite is going to get slower?? oh no, it's already slow I think.
You said there are equally good alternatives to KLite, what might those programs be called???

202461 2003-12-23 23:37:00 I use Kazaalite and often see just under 4 million on line. I saw over 4 million twice a few months ago. And I have seen under 3 million, time of day seems to affect it.

I suppose some people are scared of the RIAA's actions inthe USA.

202463 2003-12-24 21:56:00 I used to use WinMx, but it found that whilst there were lots of files on it, they hardly ever started to download.

Whereas with Kazaalite you have a pretty good chance of gegtting what you see.

Are there any other really popular P2Ps now other than Kazaa and WinMx ? I mean ones with lots of users.

202464 2003-12-24 22:04:00 It's called a less-legitimate LAN party.

Basically, once it hits midnight, everyone gets bored and starts exchanging gigabytes of files at a time.

202466 2003-12-25 01:20:00 I experience the same frustration and slowness with programs such as eMule and Overnet. although I usually get a song downloaded with eMule, large files like movies never seem to start downloading. Scattershot06 (4844)
