202376 2003-12-27 21:37:00 What prompted that comment Myke

If you just click and hold and it also brings up the same menu.

202377 2003-12-27 21:49:00 Really . . . didn'y know that . . . cool .
I was just responding to somebody earlier complaining about no right click on a mac .
I've only been back in front of a mac for the last 12 months .

I 'm using an iBook with O/S 9 & X . . . however I'm just using 9 as I find X sluggish . Also the software I have in my job is O/S9 stuff .

I'm not prepare to pay for what I see as service packs to get to the latest version of X .

When my contract finishes with this position I will go back to XP .
I feel no need to run Apple down . . . this is my choice . I'll be switching back .

202379 2003-12-27 22:13:00 The point about the Apple mouse was that it only has one button. Regardless of whether you can combine it with Control to bring up a right click menu, or hold the mouse button down (which I wouldn't like, because it would add time - I frequently use the right click menu in Windows and Linux); the point was that the standard mouse for Windows and Unix variants now have two buttons and a scroll wheel which is also a third button. You can also get mice with four buttons and a scroll wheel, or even six buttons and a scroll wheel (who knows, there might be some with a greater amount of buttons).

It's personal preference about the buttons on a mouse, but I find the standard three button scroll wheel mouse useful.

202380 2003-12-27 23:32:00 There is no extra time involved in the click and hold, anyway 2 button mice and scroll wheel are available for the Mac if you want to use them.

Two or more buttons is obviously the way to go these days but new Windows users get very confused sometimes when getting them to configure something as to whether they should right click. left click or right click and then left click. Even a double click seems to be difficult for some.

Adding more buttons than two may suit some people but for the average user they will forever remain a mystery and go the way of a typical TV remote where the majority of the many selectons never get used.

202381 2003-12-30 00:15:00 Well I went back and had a fiddle with... ObjectDock and ObjectBar and check it out!

sal.neoburn.net

Even got a PressF1 link on it ;-)

I had to fashion my own icons out of stuff I got off the net, except for PhantomDC and the PF1 link which I made myself. I have it set so it is at 32 px while dormant but 128px on mouse over.

ObjectDock is the zoomers at the bottom and is a freebie but ObjectBar you have to pay for.

They are both available at http://www.stardock.com/

If anyone want those icons I'd be more than happy to email you them.\

I suggest you check out http://www.iconfactory.com and get the World of Aqua icons in the meantime.

Peace Out!
