You get counted. As I said earlier if you use Linux any flavour all the time then you are COUNTED.

The whole point of my post was to ascertain who on PressF1 uses Linux exclusive of Windows for their day to day tasks.

For those people that have more than one PC and find that they have to go to the Win PC to read or write or create a file using whatever application then that won't count for me. For those people who find that they want to play a game and it doesn't run under Linux so they use Windows then that won't COUNT either.

Linux any flavour, kernel etc dual booting various Linux is counted.

I guess they whole idea of my post was to find out which PressF1 members use LINUX totally for their usual tasks wether it be word processing, spreadsheets, games, photo editing, CAD/CAM or whatever.

Does this make the rules more clear?

202542 2003-12-24 21:22:00 I drive a 1951 E93A Ford Prefect. Although it had me worried because in the W2K rollover I was in East Timor. I didnt know what would happen with any computer it might of had onboard.
No worries though a bit of CRC Easystart, and after 6 months it burst into life.

For real I dont know, and maybe there are other people who dont know but are too scared to ask.

202544 2003-12-24 21:48:00 "Linux" is the Kernel, or the core part of the operating system which is (in theory) the only part of the OS you actually _need_, although it wouldnt be very functional, so youd want to add some other things like Samba/NFS-Utils (for file-serving), Apache for webserving, or X (a GUI) if you wanted something more than the command line.

The rest of the applications that come with Linux are just applications and settings thrown together by the likes of MandrakeSoft and Redhat to make a Linux Disto (Distribution).

The Linux Kernel has differing versions, with bugfixes, extra functionality etc.
The great thing about the Linux kernel, is you choose what you want in it. If you dont use SCSI drives, then dont include SCSI support if you Compile your own kernel using the source code!

Make sense?

202548 2003-12-24 23:18:00 Yes, hopefully with KDE 3.2 and GNOME 2.6 also :-)

An rpm for Redhat 9 and Fedora Core 1 should be out sooner though on the RHN!

Ive updated portage and have it.. just have to try it out as the Test11 didnt like my XFS rootfs.
