203034 2003-12-25 09:24:00 Grandson running Win XP Home Edition, 40GB drive, 512mb memory,he states one day he had about 50% free space next day it was down to 1.3 GB. Have checked msconfig and Add/Remove lists and it should have about 50%, found 5 lots of spyware. Appreciate any comments. Intend having a session tomorrow and try to install a copy of jv16. He has several games which all refuse to uninstall for various reasons. FrankS (257)

203036 2003-12-26 01:51:00 Same thing happened to me.
The HD was full of System Restore files. Get rid of them.
Another thing, check the size & location of the Swap files.
With 512meg Ram you don't need a large swap file, let alone multiple ones.

Good advice...

I had a swap file on every partition of my two drives - 6 in all. I deleted all of them except the one on my Operating System partition, and since then I've noted a lot less hard drive activity after closing programmes.

203039 2003-12-28 03:26:00 Thanks for various suggestions, System Restore is limited to a max of 12% of Drive Space. Found cause today, Penicillin had quarantined 24.6 GB of files, yes, 24.6 GB. Went to C, checked each Folder size, Program Files was 26.8 GB, opened folder, checked each folder, Penicillin was 24.6 GB, opened Penicillin and Quarantine folder was 24.6 GB with over 24,000 files. Deleted files and now back to about 12 GB with about 25 GB free space. FrankS (257)
