202771 2003-12-24 10:21:00 A friend has a H.P. pavilion 6615 with a keyboard (model SK2505) that freezes while online. Win98, SP2, 56k modem. Any ideas what's going on? Vince (406)

202773 2003-12-24 20:53:00 I've seen and heard of Mice freezing and not working when online before, but not a keyboard. However most of the time the reason the mice is freezing is because the modem and the mouse are sharing the same com port, or IRQ. Now I'm not saying this is the cause for your problem but maybe you can check the IRQ and I/O address settings of your Keyboard and Modem to see if there are any conflicts.

Right click on "My Computer" then click properties and then Device manager. Check the properties for the Keyboard and Modem to see if they are using the same device settings (this does NOT always show up as a conflict, so don't assume that bcause there is no yellow exclamation mark, that all is well)

As I said this may or may not be the problem but I guess you gotta start somewhere.

202774 2003-12-24 21:18:00 That model of keyboard is one of the one-touch multimedia HP brands. This keyboard and its driver has been known to cause a few internet problems because of the mmkeybd.exe part of the driver which is known to ping home to HP. You can read more here (www.spywareinfo.com).

What your friend could do, is uninstall the keyboard driver, and then just let Windows install a default keyboard driver - this will mean however that none of the multi-function keys will work. But, if the internet problem ceases then you will know what was causing it.
