2003-12-26 11:23:00 | Hellooo I need to trim a digital passport photo to the resolution of 320 pixels wide * 240 pixels high. Got the pic taken at a Kodak outlet and they gave it to me on floppy and has the size of 833Kb. They told me they couldnt do the specs for me. At the moment its showing in Photoshop as 1024pixels(w) * 1365pixels(h) When i try to change image size in Adobe Photoshop 6.0 to 320(w) * 240(h) the image appears to be distorted i.e like when you try to squash someones face and it appears fat. Is there some way i can do this and sort of keep the face looking normal??? Cheers :-)

2003-12-26 11:30:00 | I would recommend IrfanView (I think thats the name of the App) for the task. Let it re-size your Pic to whatever res you want it, then just Crop it . There should be a little set of numbers in the bottom status bar of the program that tells you the current selections Width x Height, that may come in use... Hope this helps Chill.

2003-12-26 12:03:00 | Hey Chilling, I downloaded IrfanView and tried resizing and then cropping. It did the same thing. The image appears distorted, like squashed I guess what i need to do somehow is to decrease the height to 240 pixels but still retain the pic looking normal. Can there be some way to do this. I have trie cropping first and then applying 320 * 240. When i do that the distortion appears less. But i cant go cropping anymore as i will end up chopping part of the hair or chin. Can i get it done some other way. Thanks

2003-12-26 12:26:00 | Did you try Re-sampling the image, that may make it look slightly better. The short answer otherwise is no, you need to cut out more of the picture to retain sharpness :-(

2003-12-26 19:55:00 | gidday, this little freebie may help you, I use it a lot and find it doesn't distort too much, it also pulls the kbs down drastically, and doesnt harm the original picture. www.webattack.com good luck, Robby

It won't matter about the width at this stage, so ignore that. Make it as wide as you want. Crop around the image to the height you want in the pic. Passport photos usually need head and shoulders. Crop so the image is centered. Now go into "image" dropdown menu, click image size - type 320 into the "height" box in the Boxes labelled "Pixel dimensions". Make sure the "constrain proportions" box is checked. Now click image menu again, click "Canvas size" - type 240 into the width box making sure that you have "pixels" in the right hand box. Make sure the "relative" box is UNchecked. click OK. A message will come up saying something about "some clipping will occur" click "proceed" and you should have a nicely non distorted pic. If you end up clipping more than you wanted open the "history" window and click back to before the first crop and try again. Yo |

2003-12-27 05:58:00 | I have tried 320(w) * 240(h) but it still appears distorted. I can also do 300 * 300 reso and pic appears fine. But if you read below the specs for the pic then i am not to sure whether they can detect that it was a digital pic and not scanned pic. Here is the spec: The image must be in the Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) File Interchange Format (JFIF) format. If the image is created by using a digital camera, it must have a resolution of 320 by 240 pixels, with either 24-bits of color, 8-bits of color or 8-bits of gray. If the image is created by scanning a photographic print the original print must have been 2" by 2" (50mm x 50mm), and the scan must be performed at a resolution of 150 dots per inch (dpi); the image must have a resolution of 300 by 300 pixels, with either 24-bits of color, 8-bits of color or 8-bits of gray. The image can not exceed 62,500 bytes (62.5KB) in size From the above specs i am not sure if they print it out, will it appear 2inches * 2 inches?? This is if i set the digital pic to 300 * 300 Any help much appreciated. Thankxx
