203192 2003-12-26 11:19:00 I'm considering upgrading from Win98SE to Win2000. Currently, I'm have a PIII 733MHz, 256M RAM, 32M video card machine. Has anybody experienced any problems upgrading? Or experienced problems since upgrading?

Cheers

203193 2003-12-26 11:25:00 No problems here.

If Win98 is working for you, then stick with it. If you have a free copy of Windows 2000 (or real cheap), then go for it, as you'll find it _is_ more stable, with better support for more recent programs (aside from MS stopping support for Win95/98 in Jan IIRC).

Just make sure you get Win2K SP4 first, and up-to-date Anti-Virus protection to keep those nasties away :-)

And good luck ;-)

Cheers

203194 2003-12-26 11:26:00 BTW - Welcome to PressF1.

We hope you'll stick around long after you've upgraded your PC.

Isnt 12:11 an odd time to be signing up though?

;-)

203195 2003-12-26 20:42:00 I would image your C: drive using ghost or driveimage just in case of any trouble so you can revert back in a about 15 mins if you want to just in case of any incompatibilities you may haver with drivers or hardware . kiwibeat (304)
203196 2003-12-26 23:24:00 I upgraded my 98se to win2k and allthough it claimed to have done it, it most certainly did not!

I had office 2000 installed and that did not work after the update only with 6 other programms I use regualy.

Moral is CLEAN install..

P.S. You can do this to make your life a bit easyer...

1. Put a win2k CD in your CD drive.
2. Start>Run>(cd drive letter):i386\winnt32 /checkupgradeonly
3.Let it run its test and note the location of the report file.
4. DO MAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO WHAT IS SAYS!!!

Also you can download a program from mickysoft that will do the same thing:

203197 2003-12-26 23:32:00 I have done it as a clean install on a significantly smaller machine with no problems that couldn't be tweaked away. Office 2K works fine along with most other apps but I did need to download new printer and scanner drivers as well as SP4 and a nice afternoon's downloads of other M/S updates.

Uses rather more of my 128 RAM than I would like but I appreciate the increased stability overall.
