| 203139 | 2003-12-25 23:47:00 | when i got my laptop it came with supercover warranty, i only know of it as a extenstion of the normal manufacturers warranty... and now my lappie touchpad-mouse is playing up, (i posted a thread on this here) and on wednesday i had a friend check it out and apparently its a minor technical fault, (he didnt open anything, he just checked drivers and all that kinda thing to check its not a driver fault) would the warranty cover it? and how long would a repair take as obviously i'm deaf and its mainly my communications source but i can live 3-5 days max without it as have a fax and text... I just dont want to face charges/fees for it as i've spent enough money over christmas...... Any advice or anything on what i can/should do please Cheers Chris |

Contact whoever you purchased the laptop from, and explain that you need the laptop fixed urgently and see whether they can fast-track it, or at least provide a replacement if it needs sending away for a lenght of time . However, you might find it hard to get it fixed quickly at the moment due to companies closing down over Xmas/New Years . Can you plug in a standard mouse and use that for the time being? |

Why don't you take it back to the retailer and they may have someone on premises to fix it on the spot. Noel Leemings in Dunedin have domne this for a friend who had similar sounding problem to yours. You may find also (surprise, surprise) that someone on this forum will know how you can fix it yourself |

| 203142 | 2003-12-26 00:30:00 | Pretty sure also that Supercover pays all repairs, although like any insurance, you may have to pay the first $ amount as a excess . If there is an excess, I don't think they will waive it because you have spent up large at Xmas . But you never know??????? |

| 203143 | 2003-12-26 01:33:00 | Chris, I would certainly explore the warranty issue regarding payment of total costs but if the usage of the mouse pad is a problem and an immediate solution is required in the interim, I suggest plugging in a standard mouse. I use the a standard mouse with my laptop in preference to the mouse pad. | Smurf (506) | ||
| 203144 | 2003-12-26 05:25:00 | i'm actually using a friends mouse at the moment as its really annoying, but yeah i prefer the laptop touchpad to a external mouse... i'm going into the store 2morrow which is Noel Leemings of Rotorua, and see what can be done... and i think i might just wait till the new year rings in before getting anything repaired.. thanks guys for ur comments and advice :-) |

| 203145 | 2003-12-27 00:59:00 | As a general rule, if the product is new and something goes wrong, get it back to the seller . That's what the guarantee is for . :_| Especially with a laptop, it is a Very Bad Idea for you or a friend to attempt to fix a "minor technical fault" . That 's a good way to get no benefit from the warranty . The warranty might still cover the fault even after you have not fixed it . ;-) It certainly won't cover any damage done while trying to fix it yourself . Laptops are tricky . They have fragile bits which can get broken if someone, who doesn't know how, tries to open them . |

| 203146 | 2003-12-27 02:21:00 | friend certianly didnt open anything, he just looked on the computer, like in hardware devices to see if settings were correct and if drivers were updated and right...and seems like all that is in order, thats where he got the guess its a technical fault... i've not even touched the laptop with a screwdriver or a teaspoon :P so yeah i'm just using a friends mouse and gonna get it to the seller after the new years..or would that void the warranty if i wait longer? cheers |

| 203147 | 2003-12-27 02:25:00 | That was general advice, Chris ... I know you didn't. :D No, waiting until the shop opens after holidays, and for you to have time to go will be no problem. Unless you wait a few years. ;-) |
