203095 2003-12-25 23:15:00 this is really bugging me. My CDrom was working fine untill i put an old harddisk in so i could copy some files onto it, the hard disk i put in is an old 1.7gig seagate. windows didnt detect the 'new' harddisk and then it didnt want to know about my current CDrom driver either. I took the harddisk out and now im just using my normal 1 by itself, but windows still doesnot detect the cdrom, however it does says its there in the bios. this is reaaaally annoying meeeee

help?

using 98se

203096 2003-12-25 23:19:00 also after the cdrom has stuffed up windoes will not shut down properly, it hands on the "windows 98 is now shutting down" Jimmy D (2061)
203097 2003-12-25 23:25:00 When you installed the other hard drive did you have the Master / Slave jumpers set properly.
In Device Manager remove the CD that is showing and then do a restart.

203098 2003-12-26 06:55:00 Hi, in addition to the jumpers you have to have the cable the right way around as well. Take a note where the red line is on the edge of the cable for your HD and compare this to the CDROM. This pages may help.
