1353226 2013-09-11 00:11:00 Hi we currently have a 5 gb normal Orcon a/c which costs us more than a genius a/c will and we need more data.
I am interested in any feedback from forum watchers as to how good the genius system is especially the voip phone side of it. Are there any drawbacks?
Are there better isps out there that dont cost any more?

Any comments appreciated
cheers

1353227 2013-09-11 00:32:00 Initially there were a lot of issues with stability, I'm not sure how things are now though, chances are they have improved somewhat. Hopefully someone who currently uses one can comment. wratterus (105)
1353228 2013-09-11 04:14:00 My olds are still on them. They regularly make the router crash and fall over, and it's just them with two kids now. Throughput they *actually* attain is mediocre at best, even though they're syncing at 13mbps. Also, the service from the Helpdesk is absolutely abysmal if its anything other than "Yeah a router restart fixed it thanks goodbye".

Personally, I wouldn't...

1353229 2013-09-11 04:49:00 Hmmm thanks for the comments any thoughts on a better isp than orcon Im not impressed with them either but any remarks you see on the other ones are not much better ie slingshot or telecom both get negative comments a lot of the time petemit (1134)
1353230 2013-09-11 06:57:00 I cannot speak for the Genious set up.

However...We also were on that 5GB plan & wanted more.To get the 30GB we would have had to go Genious. But...I have a Medical Alarm. I wanted to keep the landline. Orcon would not play. So we changed to Telecom & got 30GB cheaper. PJ

1353231 2013-09-11 10:08:00 To be honest Telecom have been relatively decent of late. They're also offering VDSL2 at a good price, along with a number of smaller players. VDSL2 is fantastic! Chilling_Silence (9)
1353232 2013-09-11 10:23:00 Telecom or Snap are the only ISPs I'd really recommend atm. inphinity (7274)
1353233 2013-09-11 23:31:00 Thanks for your feedback we have been told we cant get vdsl2 though our cabinet although its only 250 meters from our house
Will look at telecom and snap

1353234 2013-09-12 08:12:00 I had Orcon Genius for 12 months. It was terrible in every way with absolutely no support.
The VoiP phone is not reliable as it only works when the Broadband is working, also not when the power is off.
I now have "Naked Broadband" with Hosting Direct, also VoiP from them. Very reliable, except when someone dug up the cables in the street! My alternative choice at the moment is Telecom.
