2013-09-05 02:20:00 | Hi. For few weeks have been trying DuckDuckGo search engine. Bad decision and I want it gone GONE - but it seems to have taken roost and I can't find a way to delete. It is (at the moment) my default search engine and I can't even seem to change that. Will go back to Google as it seems to cover more NZ items Am just trying to get the hang of Windows 7 and can't find my way around as easily as in XP so would appreciate some help here. Thanks so much.

2013-09-05 04:39:00 | Click on the down arrow by Duckduckgo on the right. When you search. Select manage search engines. Highlight that Duckduckgo one then remove it | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2013-09-05 08:10:00 | On FF, set a different starting page and, in search engine space set a different default engine (Manage Search Engines link), then you can delete it. Depending on you FF version, if it was set as default page for new tabs (sort of) you may need to fiddle with FF > Options > Options. BTW, I really like DuckDuckGo, it is one of last search engines with some respect for user privacy.

Thank you both, Speedy and bir8, for your tips. neither has worked and I'll perhaps try reinstalling Firefox. Yes bir8, I had also heard that DDG has 'some respect for user privacy'. That's why I thought I'd try it but having tried a few different search options now seems to me that Google is the one which has most links for NZ content and, as I do a lot of family tree / history stuff, that's important to me. |

2013-09-06 01:30:00 | See if its under addons. If it is remove it | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2013-09-06 09:06:00 | This is what you should do first: Go to your browsers' settings and choose add-on/extensions. Search for anything that is related to DuckDuckGo (and also any other suspicions file name) and remove it. Again from the setting, change your homepage back to normal (that is if it has been changed) Open PC Control Panel and search for any program or file with the same name and remove them. Open your windows Explorer and search again for any left file or folder containing DuckDuckGo in their name. I suggest you also read this DuckDuckGo removal guide to get rid of it completely: www.virus-delete.com
