Apparently commercial kitchens can no longer supply their waste food to pigs, since there are concerns that the hormones/additives will cause health problems since they will be present again in the pig meat. I think some of it is a bit of a conspiracy, specifically the sensationalist parts. And his sources are largely questionable, however, for the better part it is true. I know the artificial sweeteners are definitely not good for you, and although I don't have any evidence/reasoning I do feel that the ammount of additives in food is disturbing. I like to avoid heavily processed food, for example, instead of using a sachet of pre made stir fry sauce, I'll make it myself. It's not that hard and it's more fun. Not sure if that "helps" in any way, but I like to cook and it gives me control over the food in a little way (eg make it more gingery/add more lime etc etc. I think the heavy commercialisation is a big problem, and it's what is driving this type of behaviour. I think it would be nice to get completely chemical free, but that's just not a practical option for me. Perhaps one day when I win my millions and can buy a big old farm house, slaughter my own stock, harvest my own garden and have a few piles of old machinery to get oily under. If I get extra lucky I'll have a plane or two.... ok so maybe not totally chemical free, but at least the food will be :D |

They may turn out to be right and cetainly there is some cause for concern but it's far from fact at this point. Add to that the average lifespan of people in the western world continues to increase and I think maybe they are overstating their case. Secondly the world can not feed the current human population without GE foods, we simply can't produce enough food. If we all switched to healthy organically grown foods half the worlds population would starve. Some scientists have dedicated their lives to feeding the starving in poor countries only to have their work labelled evil because they use genetic engineering. Lastly while I believe it's possible that health concerns have been known about and not made general knowledge I find the Idea that they are being deliberately used to medicate the population completely ludicrous. The population needs to be reduced in my opinion or the whole planet will end up as food production, industry, and housing and nothing else, but to suggest this ridiculous conspiricy is idiotic. |

The cursor kept leaping around the text while I was trying to type and the lines I leave to make the text more readable kept disappearing, had to fire up the PC in the end to fix it. And this is using a transformer with a keyboard so you can't blame the touchscreen. | dugimodo (138) | ||

| 1331040 | 2013-03-02 19:44:00 | Since all the food we eat would kill our great Grandparents, their isn't really much around that isn't modified in some way. Unless you buy heritage seed and grow your own food and hunt wild game their isn't much you can do about it either | gary67 (56) | ||
