1330001 2013-03-04 06:52:00 The reason why your M/C rego is dearer than a car is because the ACC part of a M/C rego is a lot dearer.
:)

1330002 2013-03-04 06:54:00 so by your theory, if I have two cars and can only drive one at a time. I should then only pay one registration between the two. Motorbikes cause less damage to the road then cars, but my rego is almost double that of a car. Your theory is flawed
By the way, I do think cycle registration is a dumb idea.

The reason your motorbike rego is twice that of your car is nothing to do with road tax. It's because of damn ACC levies - and the reason levies are so high for motorcycles is again because of drivers of four-wheeled vehicles being unable to see anything on the road smaller than another car.

And I don't see any reason why rego shouldn't be per driver's licence rather than per vehicle - as you say you can only drive one at a time... But that's getting a bit further off-topic. :)

1330003 2013-03-04 06:55:00 Why a dumb idea?? The Gov needs all the revenue it can get it's hands on. Here is a good revenue stream. May take some of the heat of the long suffering motorist..

There's a candidate for a Tui billboard if ever I saw one! :D

1330006 2013-03-04 07:22:00 and yet a cyclist pays none? Cyclists who own cars pay ACC. And are therefore covered when not driving their cars...I'm more than happy to send you my ACC bill for this year. It's nearly $3K!!!I feel I pay more than my fair share... johcar (6283)

Not all cyclists own a car. I know of several including one chap I used to work with who owned just a bicycle and rode to work. He had two serious accidents in the six years I worked there and spent quite a considerable amount of time in hospital and was off work for several months on ACC each time. From memory I think he had had other accidents before that as well.
