| 1353559 | 2013-09-17 15:08:00 | Then how about this HP one (www.pcworld.co.nz) reviewed by our very own fine PCWorld. Thanks, I did check out that link, must admit I've never really been a HP fan and although it seems grunty enough, some of the features and the comments in the article about build quality put me off a little bit... |

I tried the Win 8 RC version when it was available, couldn't stand it. The navigation wasn't intuitive at all. I know they have worked hard to improve it since then though. My desktop is Win 7 and I'm perfectly happy with it, but it seems most manufacturers offer only Win 8. |

I initially was quite anti, now I've come to quite like it. But if you have no need or interest in the new style apps then it offers nothing that 7 can't already do. I would not have a problem with going back to 7 after using 8 for a few months but I don't feel the need to either. Windows 8.1 is due out next month and has a few usabilty tweaks that should reduce the hate a little. Really if you don't like "metro" you can just use it as a big start menu and use all the desktop versions of apps which really removes most of the differences other than the cosmetic one. |

Usually Pro class laptops, not the cheapo home laptops sold at 'toaster shops' You get a Win8 license , but its downgraded to a Win7 install. Sometimes you get recovery CD's for both Win7 & Win8 so you can change to Win8 later (wipe & re-image) HP's are good, if you get the Pro/business class laptops. The cheap HP's are just that, cheap (as per cheapies from other brands) I dont like Win8 either (yuk, split personality OS with a phones GUI), choose what you will be happiest with. :-) |
