203879 2003-12-29 08:09:00 www.dse.co.nz IEEE1394 PCI Card[/url]. What's the difference between one of these and the ones sold by most computer stores for about $30 more?

All I want to use it for is to connect to the video camera and save some video... would it be suitable (as the DSE website seems to imply), or should I fork out a little more... or a lot more?

Also am I likely to have a device that doesn't comply with these specs? Any IEEE 1394 device that complies with either the 1394-1995 or 1394.a specification and that does not use more than 1.5 A

203880 2003-12-29 10:55:00 I purchased one from DSE earlier in the year. I use it for the same reason you want one. I have not had any problems with it at all.
Good luck.

203881 2003-12-29 11:16:00 This site might be able to give you a little more info on the DSE card spec wise ....

www.meritline.com

At least with DS if you don't like it or it doesn't work properly then it's no hassle to take it back.

203882 2003-12-30 01:25:00 DSE seem to get standard gear labeled for them. :D Usually, as their suppliers change, DSE quit the last few cards at reduced prices. The only problem I have with their stuff is not being able to get it: the reduced price ones are all sold before I get to the shop. :-( Graham L (2)
203883 2003-12-30 09:11:00 I agree with you on that Graham. There were some $9 gigabit NICs and other goodies recently, they went real quick. I think that when a staff member realises how cheap they are (the non-moronic staff) they buy them themselves. -=JM=- (16)
203884 2003-12-31 04:08:00 You have to be in super quick to get the clearout deals ....

A couple of weeks ago they had Digidocs for $26 ..... they were originally $150ish ...

I have managed to grab a few deals from time to time........

The cards are regular price, not clearout, so I think I'll have no issues there :)

Who do you think you are? I see you have thousands of 'posts'. Wow, all these posts must make you an expert. Good objective reasoning - "I think that when a staff member realises how cheap they are (the non-moronic staff) they buy them themselves." An insulting statement that PressF1 permits? How does this happen? Do they not even attempt to screen insulting statements?
That is the problem with this whole pressf1 site. PC world let people like -=JM=- loose to give an opinion that is based on absolutely nothing, insulting people in the process.
I first read about this site in the pcworld magazine. The magazine was excited about the expert opinions/assistance given. I think the standard must have slipped.
PCworld - please attempt to raise your values.

203887 2004-01-04 09:25:00 I'm basing this from real experiences pavlr. I was down at my local DSE branch and a customer came in saying that they wanted to buy some more firmware because Xtra had said they needed new firmware to fix their internet connection problems. One of the staff said he'd never heard of firmware before and looked at me to see what I had to say, I just ignored him as I didn't want to get into it. One of the other staff members piped up saying "they mean you need to buy a new modem".

I find DSE and it's staff members very good at times this time however they didn't seem to be doing their part.

Then again, I work in a retail store and I'm sure people think the same of me.

203888 2004-01-04 22:31:00 Yes I agree with JM, the staff try to help and are trying hard but they are in a technical area and should have a lot more knowledge. This is an accelerating trend in the last 10 years to have young people who cannot possibly have enough experience selling technical products. I used to do that when I was 22 years old and I did know my stuff as an Engineering Manufacturers Representative. I represented 23 different franchises. Not only technical knowledge, but I knew where the product was on the shelves and had a least an idea of what it was supposed to do. zqwerty (97)
