| 203834 | 2003-12-28 19:44:00 | A friend of mine has a situation wherby every time his phone rings, his PC starts up. Apparently the computer is in the off state and not hibernate or stand-by. I said I'd go around and have a look at it for him but thought that someone here might have had a similiar problem, and would be able to point me to exactly the cause. | Gerard P (4509) | ||
| 203835 | 2003-12-28 19:56:00 | It will be the modem waking up the machine with "Wake on Call" or "Wake on Modem" (or something with that meaning) which is activated/deactivated in the machines BIOS. Generally speaking just go into BIOS, find what you're looking for, change it, save it and leave. Reboot the machine and it then shut it down, call your friend from a cellphone, or dial 137 (wait till you hear a ring tone and then hang up), the phone should ring and the PC will continue in it's powered down state. | 203836 | 2003-12-28 20:05:00 | hi ya i had this problem not so long ago and had a thread "comp pulling restarts" or something to that effect got the inns and outs of what to do so if you like do a search for it, now if i could find how to do the link thread id be onto it..... then i could post the link..sorry scared me silly the idea of going into the bios, but all is fine now. no probs for ages. at least i havent caused any for ages :D hope that helps a little. beetle |

| 203837 | 2003-12-28 23:15:00 | xp? control panel, system, hardware, device manager. find the modem. power options, and uncheck "allow this device to bring the computer out of standby" if this doesnt work, you will have to fiddle around in bios. |
