2004-06-25 05:27:00 | i just use wmp10 i have been through most of the other media players but just keep coming back to wmp as i find it the most streamlined, simplist and easiest music player to use, also that taskbar miniplayer is a great feature | lagbort (5041) | |
2004-06-25 10:42:00 | Actually the printout that I kept was only two pages long - only up to Dec 30 9.40am - so now have read the later comments. Like Baldy says there is no need to be paranoid about it. I was not thinking in terms of anyone checking my viewing, listening etc, they might die of boredom ! I cannot understand though how someone can avoid using Media Player - there are times when it is the only choice given. On Amazon.com the choices are RealPlayer and WMP. I did a test today on four different tracks and WMP definitely sounded better on each than RealPlayer, especially the background music where it picked up more nuances (can you say nuances in music ?) and was clearer. Having said that wmp is the media player i use for playing my mp3's,I have no other use for it though, its inabilty to stay above other windows makes it useless as a video player.

2004-06-25 10:55:00 | and seeing as im posting anyway, the reason ms want to monitor what your doing with your media player is so they can restrict what you do with it in order to make money from streaming content to you, they dont sift through what particler sites people are visiting, they just collect data and then change the rules, and all you who have updated will be locked into what MS says is right. | metla (154) | |
2004-06-25 11:57:00 | I don't think streaming media will ever take off in NZ for some time yet, well at least with such low data caps and insane pricing for broadband. My Woosh connection can't even handle a 192k audio stream without stopping to buffer it every 10secs. Its rated as 250k service but nope. Try doing anything fancy like that on Jetstream and you'll be caught with excess usage charges sooner or later. And if you're on unlimited plan you get cut back to 64k so thats no use for streaming media either. ;) Any of the Windows Media Player series I wouldn't touch with a 10ft barge pole. There are just so many better alternatives. People still using that pathetic excuse for a program should get their head out of the sand.

It's "skin" mode has an "always on top" function, which is quite useful for video playing. Tools > Options > Player, tick "Display on top when in skin mode". Mike. |

2004-06-25 12:21:00 | I've been using Winamp ever since WMP didnt work on my computer, and I love it. Sure the constant little boxes are annoying, but atleast you can sort by artist in the playlist. As for sound quality, the only thing i noticed is that WMP is marginally (ie .0000000000000017 %) better sound volume from MP3s. Then again, that was version 2.91 of Winamp, which I think is amazing. Version 5.01 is the brand spanking new one, and it has alot of new skins - but I still use the basic old school skin so it made no difference to me. As for WMP, yes, version 10 beta is out.
