203850 2003-12-28 19:49:00 On Saturday day I went into town with $100 in my pocket(kindly passed on by the wife who forgot my xmas gift) to by a new game for the pc. Got a bit of a shock as 90% of the games I found needed at least a 750mhz chip. It has been a while since I bought a new game but I really struggled to find anything that would run on my 330mhz hp.
Then I came across the sims collectors edition, had always been curious about it, its specs were ok for me so I bought it.
Have done a search on pf1 for any strings about The Sims but could not find any that were reasonably current.
Does anyone else here play it? and do they have any sites that might be usefull for a beginner.
I played it most of yesterday and I'm starting to get the hang of it, the only problem I seem to have is getting out of the rut of work, home and sleep(sounds familiar I know) I then find that they start getting shitty cos they dont have time for anything else.
Any sites or hints would be appreciated

thanks
Mik

I havent played it in a while, but its generally self-explanitory if you do the Tutorial.

Check out that site Megaman posted. You'll get the hang of managing your Sims well after a short while. When you start off, give them a very small house and if you budget well you should have about $3-500 left over at the end (Depending on what you began with obviously).

You should be able to Juggle Work/Home life pretty well, just make sure you have it on the slowest "time" setting so they're not running round like mad-men and get away on you... And start with only 1 sim and marry somebody else later on in the game :-)

Hope that helps

203853 2003-12-28 20:43:00 Maybe that was my problem, i have been trying to play with two flatmates and it gets a little hectic trying to satisfy all there needs.
Have registered at the sims website and had a bit of a look around.
thanks for the help

203854 2003-12-28 21:20:00 no. 2 sims can be a good idea. 1 goes to work and gets money, while the other one gets cooks and cleans. if you hire a maid life gets a lot easier cleaning up but it does cost $10 a day. i can give you a cheat to get $1000 instantly, if you want it. Megaman (344)
203855 2003-12-28 21:56:00 If you need catch up time, it's okay to miss a day of work, but if one of your Sims misses more than one day then they'll get fired (and obviously if you miss a day of work, then you also miss a paycheck).

I have found that Sims who live on their own tend to struggle to get everything done, and nearly always need a gardener and/or a maid.

$1000? You can't buy much for that ;) When I played the Sims a while back, I made sure they were well off before I started... I gave them a nice round $2b :D

I don't like games where I have to make money as well as do other stuff in the game. Its a game - things should be free ;)

203858 2003-12-31 01:58:00 Whatever you do don't get a baby until you know how to manage your sims time properly. If you don't know how to get a baby then go ask you parents I'm sure they will tell you ;-)

Also one more tip buy a smoke alarm and put it above the stove (Very important if your sims doesn't know how to cook) trying to call the fire depat in the even of fire is a waste of time as they take too long to get ther, the smoke detector alerts them immediately and they arrive quicker.

Another suggestion is to put the burgler alarm on the OUTSIDE of the house near the doorways that allow entry into the house as well as on the inside. This will call the police as soon as the burgler is detected outside and he will be caught before he can get away.

One more suggestion about friends. I make a whole family all 8 members made up of children, adults, males and females then I put them don on a vacent lot with a table and a telephone, that is all- No house just lawn. Then I go to my real family and wait for the homeless ones to pass by or ring the door bell, that way you have plenty of people to make friends with.

203859 2003-12-31 02:40:00 thanks odin

have discovered the trick with the fire alarm, lost a oven, fridge and waste disposal this morning then found the fire alarm.

will try the empty lot might help me a bit getting the friend count up, saw a download for a cardboard box this morning, maybe i should get the homeless ones one of them?

Having a bit of trouble getting two sims to accept marriage have tried from both the male and female perspective and both ways they say no. will keep giving gifts and hugs etc and see what happens.

thanks again
happy new year
