| 204178 | 2003-12-30 07:46:00 | I am trying to run Norton Optimiser (with little success) I am running a full Scandisk test (thorough disk media) It came up with a message that it had to restart due to programs running. Yet I think I have disabled them all... I used Ctrl Alt Del and removed all running prgrams except Explorer. What else can be running ? And how can one find out ? I am using Windows Me I know this is a hoary old one, but so am I Thanks Digby And why don't they make prgrams such as Norton tell you before they start or even better tell you what is running ? |

Basically, If anything writes to the drive during scandisk you'll find that it will want to start from scratch again and will complain that there is a running process. |

| 204180 | 2003-12-30 09:27:00 | Thanks Cyberchuck, I do not want to run it in Safe Mode as my next step will be to be run Optimiser and that DOES NOT run in Safe Mode. When I try to Optimse it keeps restarting and I now suspect that it is the system process that you speak of that may be causing it, so I need to know what they are and how to turn them off ! Any clues anyone ? Digby |

You can also just reset the computer & it will run Scandisk before booting Windows. Optimize is a fancy word Defrag, you can use the Windows one, or Norton. |
