204063 2003-12-30 00:50:00 Hi
PC is an 1800 Athlon, Gigabyte GAVXP Ultra MB, 512M RAM, Win 98SE. During or at the end of both small and large downloads, only sometimes and only while connected my screen goes completely blank. Nothing I do can get the display back up, and I end up having to reboot.
Any Ideas
Thanks

204064 2003-12-30 01:55:00 How long has this been happening? Are you using a download manager? Susan B (19)
204065 2003-12-30 02:03:00 Hi
the system is a recent build a month old. It may be related but I had problems with the system when the power management shut down the monitor and or disk, (I think) and then I just couldn't get the system to get going again, I posted to Press F1 and it was suggested I have a look at the BIOS, which I did and made everything back to default. Since then though I have no power management options going or screen saver. I dont have a download manager running on this PC.
Thanks

204066 2003-12-30 02:18:00 Is it possible that the computer is going into Standby do you think? Does it do this when nothing else is being done on the computer, ie you have left it to download files?

Others may have more suggestions but the more info that is provided the better someone is able to help. :-)

204067 2003-12-30 02:41:00 Hi again
failures previously were while I was away from the PC hence resetting the power options. So in that sense I could not categorically say that the power or screen saver settings cause the problem. More recently it occurred 20secs into a 1MB download and at the end of another driver download 500KB. Never happens just surfing or doing other work. The sleep function button on my keyboard creates the same situation, so I don't touch it. Also tried uninstalling the keyboard and letting Win 98 select its own generic driver. I don't mean to complicate the issue but I know often these sort of problems are not that straightforward.

204069 2003-12-30 03:59:00 as above, power settings are: power always on, system standby, turn off monitor, turn off hard discs, all never. Toby (767)
