If you're new to computers then it might be best to go with Hotmail, but if you've used the net before, then try orcon.net.nz They are a NewZealand ISP who offer Free email for users, as well as having a few more technical advantages (Such as Pop3 access so you can download the email to your PC rather than using webmail all the time).
