204784 2004-01-01 22:17:00 I recently brought a "Cyo've 52x24x52" cd writer from smart pc in Hamilton, it came with nero burning rom 5 and has been working fine until last night when I tried to burn some files to a cd I used win xp's in built recording software but the burning process failed around the 100% mark and the cd-r disk was effectively ruined the same thing happened when I tried to write another cd using nero but the error was instead "unable to finalize cd" burn process failed again the cd was ruined. I thought that something was wrong with the CD's I was using so I tried another brand, this time when nero reached 6% the drive slowed down and then speed up again and suddenly started making a scraping grinding noise. so I canceled the burning operation and when I looked the bottom of the cd there was a newly formed ring of scrape/scratch marks. Does anyone have any idea what the problem is? my next step is to return the cd writer and ask for a replacement.

thanks
-Jacob

204786 2004-01-01 22:32:00 ok, thanks Jacob4165 (199)
204787 2004-01-01 23:01:00 would agree return now.
also make sure you get the windows updates for XP that relate to CD burning.
would consider easycd as a burning program also.
the purists rate nero best, but easycd is more user friendly and it works as good as nero in my experience. NOTE they will not co-exist on the same system.

I agree re: EasyCD

204789 2004-01-02 09:39:00 that's true - Easy CD Creator is for "stupid" people who dont like getting their hands dirty (im not trying to be rude), so dont take ofence. but in my opinion NERO RULES!!!

oh, and another thing, i have easy CD creator 5 (i got it for a friend, and installed it for myself just because), and nero 6, and they both work fine together.

204790 2004-01-02 23:30:00 actually easycd dvd 6 ratesbetter than nero.
most people using nero got it free.
most using easycd (especially 6) paid for it.
reflection of value maybe.

i fail to see how making something less user friendly makes it better.
