204573 2003-12-31 22:10:00 I have an icon for Wild Tangent in my control panel and haven't been able to find a way to remove it. I have I think removed everything else to do with this spyware, but Spybot and Ad Aware don't seem to help in removing the control panel icon.

This might be a no brainer but I can't see an easy way to get rid of it.

204574 2003-12-31 22:31:00 And what flavour of Windows are you running? 3.0/3.1/3.11/95/98/ME/NT/2K/XP ??? Pheonix (280)
204575 2004-01-01 05:14:00 Spybot removed Wild tangent from my system when it wormed it's way in through a winamp skin. I know you've probably already done it, but have you got the latest updates for Spybot.

You could try doing a registry search and remove any instances of Wild Tangent but that could be risky.

204576 2004-01-01 06:41:00 If you are running XP
RUN | Regedit |HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE | SOFTWARE | Microsoft | Windows | Current Version | Uninstall
Then remove unwanted Folders or Files.
Suggest leave any dll files
You are working in the Registry so make a backup of Folders and files with location of those you want to remove so that if things turn to custard you can go back to square one.

204577 2004-01-01 08:08:00 As far as I know, Wild Tangent is a driver software for some of the MSN Gaming Zone online games. It is needed to play those games - someone who uses your computer may have gone to zone.com and played one of those games, which have required it to be installed. somebody (208)
204578 2004-01-01 09:12:00 Just possibly there is a .cpl file in c:\windows\system32 that is related to Wild Tangent.
Try a file search for *.cpl and look through the list that is brought up. Anything that looks like a Wild Tangent file I'd suggest renaming, re-boot and see if the icon disappears.

204579 2004-01-01 10:04:00 Ok - yes I have the latest version of Spybot and it does appear to have removed everything but the control panel entry. I tried the suggested registry method - but I can't find anything with the name wild tangent to remove. So I haven't made too much progress yet. I have Windows XP professional. twelvevolts (2623)
204580 2004-01-02 00:54:00 For games using Wild Tangent see

Have you got Belarc Advisor installed?, this will list in "Software Versions" what is installed. From Grandsons computer the following
"Wild Tangent -Game Channel Version 1, 5, 1, 0 *"
Clicking on asterisk tells you where software is installed
You can download a free version of Belarc Advisor from
www.belarc.com
Appreciate you have removed most of Wild Tangent but I think Belarc will still pick it up if it is still listed in Add/Remove

204581 2004-01-02 20:30:00 Nailed the sucker. It wasn't appearing in Belarc (I had that already) but was in c:\windows\system32 as wt.cpl. I can see now that wt stands for wild tangent - but some things aren't always obvious at first until you come to realise they should have been!! twelvevolts (2623)
