204559 2003-12-31 20:53:00 When turning on computer the box powers up but then freezes, doesn't even get to the beeping bit. Hdd light stays on nothing else.
When I leave the computer for 15-20 minutes(without turning it off) it all of a sudden just start up and then runs perfectly normal, even when I restart it just starts up normally.
But then next day same problem and I just have to leave it sitting there again for 20 minutes or so and away I go, talking about a slow startup : (
Any ideas?

204560 2003-12-31 21:05:00 Possible that your battery might be dying. But really I've no idea :)

204561 2003-12-31 22:55:00 Haven't come across that one before.
Would suggest, if you are confident enough, to open up the box and check all leads are fully pushed into their sockets.
Also remove and replace memory modules while using static strap, or , keeping at least one of your arms (bare) resting on the case at all times.

204562 2003-12-31 23:27:00 I have already opened up the case and checked all the connections, it's not likely to be the battery either as i am not losing any of the cmos settings and the system clock is always showing the correct time.
Maybe something is starting to go wrong with the motherboard and soon it won't work at all.

204563 2003-12-31 23:55:00 Have you tried booting from a floppy? May need to alter BIOS to A first.
Bye

204564 2004-01-01 00:00:00 Hi Peter,

Yes, tried that as well but won't boot from A: either as nothing actually happens for about 20 minutes

204565 2004-01-01 00:36:00 Try disconnecting the HDD and see if it boots up with floppy. Just need to eliminate causes. This will eliminate the HDD.
Sustitute video card, if not "onboard".
I would normally at this stage disconnect everything and see if you can get to Bios screen. Connect floppy and see if you can boot off it with a boot disk.
Also, if you have 2 sticks of memory, use 1 , then try the other to eliminate them.

If that fails, you are left with power supply, CPU and motherboard. Substitution is the only way to eliminate these. And that depends on your resources I guess.
I wish you all the best.

204566 2004-01-01 00:45:00 Hi Pheonix,

Looks like that may be the way to go, I will be able to substitute everything but cpu and motherboard so will see how i'll get on
