| 204526 | 2003-12-31 19:26:00 | I want to buy MoBo , CPU, Ram, and HDD. Would someone reccomend a good supplier with reasonable prices who accepts a Credit Card. I see half of them will not accept cards. WHY???? If they don't like my card, I don't like them. I have a Gold Card and have had it for years but now nobody wants it. If they think I am going into town, stand in a queue for half an hour, and deposit the money in their bank, they can think again. X-( This only seems a problem with Computer shops. WHAT'S WRONG WITH THEM ??? I was going to bur from PC SALE. I like their prices. Jack |

The prices aren't the cheapest, but they let you use Credit Card, and have very prompt and good quality service - bought a USB memory drive off them, paid by credit card, received product next-day, complete with the original Credit-transaction receipt etc. | somebody (208) | ||

From the other thread where you asked why computer shops don't take credit cards: >>> As for them not taking credit cards, I find that a huge >>> number of computer shops around the country no >>> longer take credit cards for "non-present" orders (where >>> they don't actually sight the card), as the banks ask >>> them to guarantee the purchase (eg they foot the bill >>> if the purchase is fraudulent), rather than the bank >>> covering them for any CC fraud, and this becomes too >>> high a risk for computer shops who are already working >>> on a very slim margin. If you're willing to pay more for your parts so that you can use a credit card, then its fine with me, but I'm quite happy to get the cheaper parts, and pay cash for them. The shops that do take credit cards are generally more expensive, probably to cover the risk involved with the credit card purchases that the bank places over them. It's the banks that are causing this, not the computer shops. Anyway, why stand in queue for half an hour and deposit money? Get on the internet, into internet banking, and deposit it online. Most, if not all, banks offer this service. That's how I pay for most of my online computer purchases, and probably how many other PF1 users do. Mike. |

| 204529 | 2003-12-31 20:04:00 | Thanks "Somebody", I bought an external modem from them a while ago and was very pleased with their service, but I couldn't remember their name. They have all I want except the M/B. So I will see what they can do. Their prices aren't too bad either. Jack :) |

| 204530 | 2003-12-31 20:06:00 | I would recommend PP.co.nz and ascent.co.nz both accept C/card and both have very good prices, check pricespy.co.nz for all online retailers. Cheers Mike |

| 204531 | 2003-12-31 20:09:00 | Yes Mike, but I'm not into internet banking. And I have been shopping with credit card for about 20 years and I don't intend changing. Remember retailers are there for the shopper's convenience. I live in a town with only one computer shop and they have very little stock and what they have must be gold plated. Jack |

| 204532 | 2003-12-31 20:28:00 | Jack Another reason why some shops won't accept credit cards is that their margins are so slim the percentage they must pay to the card company makes the sale unprofitable. Cheapest prices and credit card use are mutually exclusive in the computer parts business, except perhaps for "warehouse" scale businesses. You will have to compromise and accept a slightly higher price for the privilege of using your Gold card. Either that or swallow your indignation and pay by bank cheque or similar to obtain the cheap prices you want. That's life I'm afraid, even in 2004 principles must be sacrificed to the Gods of commercial reality from time to time. :| Cheers Billy 8-{) |
