| 204473 | 2003-12-31 13:50:00 | i bought a really cool dig camera in japan. its a lot of fun, but i cant get my pc to detect it via usb when i hook it up to upload files. its a panasonic SV-AV30 (SD) camera. When I was in Japan, it was detected in win xp (JP version) and after a driver install it worked fine. but now here when i connect it, its not detected at all, and when i try and install the drivers (im having a hard time of that because of language support) it still doesnt seem to make a difference at all. I emailed panasonic australia, and he pointed me to the panasonic site of au to dwnld some drivers, im not even sure how to install them, just copy them into the windows folder, because windows xp cant even detect my camera... i know this is a hard one, but i hope someone can help! | Mr_T (5031) | ||

I would say to check the connections, make sure USB is enabled on your PC (sometimes it is disabled in the BIOS). The downloaded drivers should be either in .exe or .zip format. If it's .exe, then you can just double-click on them and it should install. If it's in .zip, you'll have to open the file using Winzip (or "Comressed folders" in WinXP), and see what file(s) are inside. If the file inside is a .exe file, then just double click on that and it should run the driver installation. If it's not a .exe file, and has some randomly named files, and a file with the .inf extension, then you will need a slightly different approach. To install drivers in the .inf format, you'll firstly need to extract all the files to a folder somewehre on your computer. Then go into Control Panel-Add Hardware, click through several "next" buttons until you get to a window which has "Is the Hardware connected", and tick the Yes box, and click next. Now scroll down to the bottom of the list and select "Add New Hardware device" and click next. In this next window, select "Install the Hardware that I manually select from a list", and click next. In this new window, make sure "Show All Devices" is selected, and click next. In this new window, click "Have Disk", then "Browse", and point the dialog box to the folder where your .inf files are, which you extracted from the Zip file earlier. Click OK, find your Digicam from the list, click next to continue the install, and follow the onscreen instructions. Good luck |

| 204476 | 2004-01-01 04:44:00 | Files in .dll format - sorry, I can't help you there. It sounds like the file you downloaded is incomplete. Someone else on this forum might be able to help you though. | somebody (208) | ||
| 204477 | 2004-01-01 11:09:00 | personally I would go to the manufacturers site look for updated drivers there. Normally with usb devices you install the drivers first reboot (sometimes) with the usb device connected and it will then pick up your new device. Some times just pluging the usb device is enough for xp to detect it. Try this also (some manufacfares still do it yes even for xp) look for setup.exe on the driver disk, it may not use the Inf file for setting up. The very the last thing is is to use the detect new device applet in control panel, try a auto detect (install the drivers first), if that does not work try a manual detect (this is my term) where you select the type of device click have disk button and browse to the driver location on your cdrom disk or floppy good luck |
