204397 2003-12-31 02:00:00 I am entering times into cells that have a [mm]:ss format so that I get times appearing as 134:42 instead of 2hr 14m 42 sec. However I still have to enter them as 2:14:42 rather than 134:42.

Thats not so bad when hours are involved but you still have to enter the hour value even when there are no hours involved ie to get 45:36 I have to enter 0:45:36.

Question 1 - Is there a way or format that allows me to enter just the minutes and seconds without having to enter the hours?

Question 2 - is there a way of entering these time values using a full stop between minutes/seconds instead of a colon and still retaining the time format? This is just for ease of use with the number pad keys

Any help appreciated

Happy new year

As far as Im aware not without some custom VBA code to achieve this or using a formula. You could enter 134:42 then divide by 60 for example, or have code to automatically amend the result.

You cant use full stops because thats how Excel defines a day/time if the cell is using a date format. Have a look at this page here (www.cpearson.com) which explains a bit about dates/times.

204399 2003-12-31 04:18:00 So you're allowed to use any format you like, as long as you like the Excel format. :D Graham L (2)
204400 2003-12-31 05:15:00 I would use my own formula, and enter a number in either two columns (minutes and seconds) or total seconds and use a formula like this:

=INT(C14/60)&":"&C14-INT(C14/60)*60

If you did the two column method then something like:
=A1&":"B1

would do it, assuming the minutes were in A1 and seconds in B1.
Oh, my finger hurts. Don't type when you hit one of your four typing fingers with a hammer.

You should buy a nail gun that way you'll save your thumbs and fingers, just don't shoot yourself in the foot :D
