204453 2003-12-31 09:40:00 Hi,
Running XP Pro. According to AVG I have virus propho worm. Ran Trend from the net. It didnt pick it up . Avg Now doesnt pick it up but tells me that a file in System Volume Information\.. A0020242.EXE is the worm but XP wont permit me to even open the sys/info folder.

Did the usual search on the net for Propho with no result.

I. Have I got a virus?
and
2. How the hell can I open Sys/info folder.

Thanks in advance
Peter

204454 2003-12-31 09:47:00 Right-Click on My Computer and choose Properties.

Click on the System Restore Tab, and select Disable on all drives.

Apply it and it should clear out system restore.

Run a scan and then re-enable it :-)

I have a feeling you might need to restart the computer inbetween these, but I could be (probably am) wrong.

204456 2004-01-01 09:46:00 if you want to view the "system volume information" folder open my computer, click tools, folder options, view, scroll down and uncheck "hide protected operating system files (recomended)" Jacob4165 (199)
204457 2004-01-01 10:36:00 Ive never had to restart xp pro after disabling system restore which has become a hiding place for a virus, I normally just disable, wait for it to do what it has to then renable (if you wish which maybe a good idea) beama (111)
