204820 2004-01-02 02:40:00 Hi again,
Recently when I run sfc /scannow, it asks for the Windows XP Service Pack 1 disk but wont recognise the PC World disk (Feb 2003) as the correct disk, which is where I installed Service Pack 1 from.

Any ideas on how to overcome this problem?

204821 2004-01-02 03:25:00 That's an unusual problem. Try running the setup file for WinXP SP1 from the PC World disk again, and see if that helps. Otherwise download all the Updates from WindowsUpdate, and see if that helps. somebody (208)
204822 2004-01-02 04:07:00 Thanks somebody,
Redid Service Pack 1 from disk then ran sfc /scannow but said still needed the disk.
Also went to update site but nothing new popped up.
Still no go.

204823 2004-01-02 04:16:00 Did you point sfc to the directory where SP1 is?
ie:
your cd drive:\THISMONTH\xpsp1_en_x86

I dont know, blush blush, it seemed a good idea until I just tried sfc/scannow and couldnt get it to go with either the PCWorld disk or an XP Pro SP1 disk.
There is no option to choose where to browse to.

Sorry to lead you up the garden, it's something I'll have to work on.

204826 2004-01-02 04:36:00 Also had a hell of a job to get out of an endless loop of it asking for the right disk. Terry Porritt (14)
204827 2004-01-02 04:42:00 Hmmm.
Perhaps someone later on in the day will see this that has had this experience.
Keeping my eyes peeled.
Thanks.

204828 2004-01-02 05:18:00 Just a bit more info.

I copied the PCW SP1 folder to a CD so that there was no extraneous matter for SFC to wade through. I still got the message that the wrong CD was being used.

I got sfc /scannow to work with a full XP SP1 disk ( which has quite a different layout to the SP1 update folder), by repeatedly pressing the Retry button in the Windows File Protection window, as though just little snippets were being read from the disk and compared with the hard drive files.

It would seem that sfc doesnt like an SP1 upgrade. There also seems to be more compressed .dl_ files on the upgrade as compared to the full disk.

204829 2004-01-02 07:53:00 This may not be ethical as Im going to put up a link to another forum, but it does make interesting reading if the link works as you have to be logged in to it. Anyway try here (www.experts-exchange.com)

Apologies in advance if this practice is frowned upon :)
